Batiste Point of Sale Research.

I have decided to look into some possible point of sale options to help give me some inspiration.

Converse

This example fits very strongly with the brand and I like how the logo has been incorporated into the composition. Although this is very large scale I can see how it could be minimised and be applied to my product.

Apple iPod

I think this design has a very clean and professional appearance. The contrast between the crisp white and bright colour is very effective and helps the product stand out. I also like how the items have been arranged within the composition and how they appear to be floating.

Gu

The shape of this display is very simplistic but it works successfully with the product. I like how a photograph has been displayed of the product this is especially good as it is a food product. The contrast between black and white is effective as it another way to distinguish between the products.

Dardanel

Coskucan Gurun

The shape of this display is very interesting even though I don't think it would link with the product I am working with. What I have leant from this example is that you have to consider multiple dimensions of the form, like how one side of this shelf has the brand name and the other a corresponding pattern.

London Collection

Stickman Designs

The use of colour has been very important in the production of this stand and the main white theme helps the overall look. There are a lot of products on display which looks quite busy, especially with the bold pattern. Although the use of boxes has helped to organise it.

Absolut

Annette Nugent

Finally is this display form which I think will work with the shape of bottles I am using. I like the hard plastic surface and how it has manipulated to include a foreground and background. I think my product will also fit very neatly into the structure and will be easy to replace and keep looking tidy.

What is Good? Process Research.

Embossing

I like how embossing creates texture very directly. I also think it is interesting how it can be used without colour and the form and message still remains clear. It is a process I have never tried and I would be very interested in doing so and learning more about it.

Foiling

I love foiling as I think it instantly gives a look of luxury to a print product. It also links well with the Balinese use of gold on items of value.

Laser Cut

I think the shapes that can be created on laser cut are very impressive. I think these examples work well as they link strongly with my theme of depicting architecture and the woman also remind me of the balinese dancers.

Parfumeur Packaging Structure Research.

I have decided to look into packaging options for our perfume. We felt that creating a sturdy wooden box rather than a flimsy cardboard structure would be appealing for the audience and would also give off the luxury and hand crafted feel. By using wood it would also appeal more to men and help the scents become more unisex. Also by creating this structure it encourages the audience to keep the box for storage even after the perfume has been finished.

One Percent Packaging

Ryan Romanes

This box has a really interesting concept and how it fits together is really clever. I really like to contrast between the wooden and cardboard textures with the bright orange. The structure is very interesting and how it has been crafted looks very professional. The processes that have been used are subtle but enhance the design well. I really like the laser cut and I think it is something that could work well with our own designs.

Klotz

Gerlinde Gruber

This structure is really interesting as how it fits together is really quirky. It is currently being used as a ring box but I think the form could still lend itself to hold perfume. I think the wood used here is very aesthetically pleasing and also has an expensive look of quality. It is held together by a belly band that in our case could be decorated to help get across the emotion theme.

Wooden box

This box is very similar to what I first imagined in my head. I like the simple design and how it fits together to form a perfect cube. I like how the lid fits in line with the base so it creates a smooth surface and doesn't overlap. If we were to create a box like this I think we would have the lid lower down so the base wasn't as deep. This means we could lie our bottle down inside.

Slide box

This is a different approach with a sliding lid. I like the raw texture of the wood but I think the overall look doesn't fit with our theme. The sliding lid reminds me of something thats more for craft storage or food and drink, not a luxury perfume product.

Parfumeur Unisex Perfume Research.

I have decided to look into unisex perfumes and how they are packaged and the bottles are structured. I think this will be helpful as appealing to both genders is one of the more challenging parts of this brief. Most of the scents are also very upmarket which I think links well with what our target audience would want.

Dipteque

The black and white colour scheme of this bottle gives a very classic look which appeals to both genders. The whole design is very sparse and therefore remains simple. Even though I understand why this is effective I also think it is a bit dull and not very adventurous and a design like this won't help push the brand of L'Artisan Parfumeur.

Molton Brown

I feel that this bottle design and packaging is a lot more successful. Again a simple colour has been used but how it has been applied is a lot better. I really like the texture on the bottle and I feel this tactile quality adds interest whilst still being gender neutral, I also like the contrast between the soft round edges of the bottle and the sharp, angular corners of the lid. The packaging is also very interesting, especially the black on black spot varnish.

Giorgio Armani

This bottle design has slight variations but both compliment each other well. The black and gold has a very expensive feel. I feel that these colours can sometimes appear tacky but this design doesn't have that look. I think this is because of the simplicity of the rest of the structure and also the choice of typeface on the label. The lids are very interesting and help it to stand out from other bottles.

Floris

This perfume is heading to be slightly more decorative than the rest, but I feel it still appeals to men because of the classic and authentic, old fashioned appearance. I think that the choice of navy works well and it is a god alternative from black. The gold also fits well with the navy and it has a more expensive and less trashy vibe. I think the style of the design also helps the gold to fit in really nicely without looking garish.

Bond No 9

This is the most decorative bottle design that I have found for men and women. I think even though the structure is very unusual, it also appears very strong and masculine. I think we could take a lot of inspiration from the pattern used on these bottles as it is something we would like to include into our own design. The shapes used are very simple and are often repeated, stepping away from being illustrative and into more abstract, which I thin is something we should consider.

Creed

I really like the use of embossing used on these examples and I think that with the lack of colour this is what makes it so successful. With being all white it gives the bottles stand out shelf appeal as it something very different to all the other designs. Even though the colour palette is very unusual the structure of the bottle itself is very similar to a lot of unisex designs, having a strong base leading up to a bevelled cap.

Tom Ford

I really like the introduction of coloured glass in these Tom Ford bottles, again this is something different to help them stand out from competitors. I feel that the use of coloured glass is a lot more common within female perfumery, but these examples retain a masculine feel from the angular bottles and strong bold labelling. The typeface is also very simple and clear to read.

Dolce & Gabbana

I really like the use of colour here to distinguish between the different scents, I like how it has been done in such a simple way. The colours shown are also very deep and rich which I think helps to appeal to men as well as women. Another aspect that I find interesting is the use of a bolt/stud effect on the labels, I really like the effect and feel that it is also very on trend.

Bvlgari

This bottle and packaging has a very simple and clinical appearance. The frosted glass works well with the metallic aspects. I like the thin strip used to label the products as I feel it has a very classic look. The typeface also matches this theme.
